I’m not a Naturopath!

I’m not a Naturopath!   I’m a Doctor of Natural Medicine with several decades of education and experience that I share with my clients. As a doctor of natural medicine and integrative medical doctor I do not diagnose or treat disease.   To do so would be to focus on symptoms and disease.   We are not defined by our symptoms or our disease.   Disease is just dis-ease in the body.   In laments terms, there is a breakdown or an imbalance somewhere in our mind, body and spirit.   How did the symptoms or disease come about?   Well it’s based on what is happening not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually too.   Knowing this we can take a holistic approach to bringing balance of mind, body and spirit into one’s life.   Notice how I said ‘we’?   It’s not me doing this it’s me helping you, to guide you in your own healing.   This is a lifestyle change!   There is no quick fix, only a path to balance.     With th...

CoQ10 is not just for the faint of heart...

There is so much more to CoQ10 that a whole chapter of a book could be dedicated to this powerful co-enzyme.   For my post and informational purposes, I will try to hit the highlights without going too much into the science and just stick with what you really may be interested in knowing. CoQ10 is a co-enzyme naturally produced by the body.   The ‘Q10’ refers to the chemical compound that makes up the co-enzyme.    It is used to produce energy in the body to grow and be healthy.   The antioxidant property protects cells from harmful free radicals and helps to build the immune system.     However, as a person gets older, the levels produced by the body begin to decline, this decline can also occur in those with Vitamin B6 deficiency. CoQ10 role and benefits as an anti-cancer agent were discovered over 50 years ago.   Numerous studies have been conducted around its use against cancer.   It was determined that patients with cancers in the ...

"Gluten Sensitivity" more than a gut issue....

The doctor is in... doctors do more than just diagnosis, they educate, or at least that is what they should be doing.  So that's what I'm going to do here. We hear alot (ALOT) about gluten sensitivity.  Many think it's just something that will upset your stomach, cause reactions, or symptoms of fatigue, or just make you feel icky! However, it is so much more than that.  There are interrelated responses in the body occurring. When you introduce gluten in a susceptible individual it can trigger damage to the intestinal mucosa, impairing nutrient absorption and creating B12, mineral, and vitamin D deficiencies, in addition to upregulating the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (known as GALT) and activating a system immune response that can, in turn lead to oxidative stress and imbalances in thyroid and hormones. Further more the inflammation (through other weird names like PPARs, TNF-a) increase insulin resistance, impairing fatty acid oxidation and leading to changes in ...

Detoxing Your Home

When we hear the word detox or detoxing, we usually think of our body.   Well sometimes our home or work areas can use some detoxing too.   Especially during the winter months when our house is locked up tighter than a drum! Our home or office can be very toxic from the materials inside our home to the chemicals and products we use every day. One way to detox (simply) is to use essential oils and diffuse them in your house.   One essential oil designed for this specific reason is Purification from Young Living.   Even if you cannot diffuse it, for example in your office or at your desk, put a few drops on a cotton ball and place on your desk or near your computer. Another way is to invest in some indoor plants designed to help detox.   Here is a list that I and others believe to be in the top 10: Peace Lily filters benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene, and toluene. Snake Plant filters benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethyl...

Attitude of Gratitude

There is so much to be thankful for.   What you are thankful for is not what others will be thankful for.   Our gratitude and thankfulness should never be compared to others.   Our gratitude is personal like religion or politics.    Your gratefulness can be shared or kept personal, but should be practiced every day.   ' The Science:   People who are thankful for what they have are better able to cope with stress, have more positive emotions, and are better able to reach their goals.  Scientist have even noted that gratitude is associated with improved health.  (2014 Dr. Mercola)' Attitude of gratitude can lead to a happier and healthier life.   Start today by just listing one thing you are grateful or thankful for.   Tomorrow, two things you are grateful for, and so on… keep building your list, and see how your health and life changes. Thankful for all those who read this and are inspired. Blessings!

Balneotherapy?

Balneotherapy comes from the Latin word balneum, which means bath.  It involves immersing yourself in mineral or thermal waters for healing purposes. This type of therapy is used to treat many issues and illnesses.  Balneotherapy has many benefits from relaxation, relieving stress, to treating many illnesses. We all know that bathing can be a relaxing therapy for many and relieving stress can help to prevent many diseases. When we are stressed we deplete our body very quickly of the vitamins and nutrients the body needs. The skin is the largest organ of our body and acts as way to not only bring into the body healthy nutrients, but also to expel or detox the body of chemicals and toxins. That is why it is so important not only to be aware of what you put in your body, but on your body as well.   Immersing your body in mineral waters adds many minerals to help the body. So when we talk about some illnesses that Balneotherapy treat or prevent; e...

What is Yoga?

What is Yoga? by Prati First Day at Yoga Institute http://www.svyasa.org/ in Bangalore (1st November 2010): I arrived for my one month yoga teacher training with more baggage than one should have at a yoga institute, thanks to my almost two years old son and mother. Cayden and I immediately set on exploration, leaving my mother alone to put things in some kind of order at our temporary living space. As usual, the little munchkin is on my hip, I hear voices, “Nice kid, cute kid…” of course, I had to investigate the source and stumbled on a class full of students in various yoga postures. As it turns out, they were in their second year, a year shy from getting the bachelors in yoga. Cayden happily decided to create mayhem, but those yogis instead of shooing him away, started to twist him in yoga poses. So I decide to stay put while Cayden figures outs crawling between hands when people are in hand stand or climbing on their stomach while in boat pose is lot more fun. Every one...

Embracing the New Era

Getting ready for the shift of 12/21/12 and the New Year of 2013.  The shift will be gradual and delightful if you are willing to embrace it.  Here are a few tips gathered from other sources on how you can get ready, embrace it and ride the wave into a new era of your life: 1. Release the old things that no longer serve you. This can be from people to the clutter in your home. If it is people, bless them and release them. If it is old ideas and fears, dissolve them. 2. Make sure you are crystal clear on what you want your new life to be. 3. Embrace change. It’s a journey, not a destination. And when you take control of the change you ride it like a seasoned surfer, rather than get caught in it like a helpless victim of circumstances. Radical change can feel like a giant elephant just walked into the room—completely overwhelming. So even with radical change, the key is to take it one step at a time! 4. Have a daily spiritual practice. It does not matter what you do, wha...

The Healing Benefits of Flower Essences

Plants have been used for their healing properties for over 3,000 years. Herbs are used as teas, tinctures and salves, some plants are used for their healing properties from their oils topically or even ingested. Sometimes pulp or sap is taken straight from the plant such as Aloe to address various skin issues, such as burns. Flower Essences was pioneered by Dr. Bach back in the 1930’s, which later became known as Bach Remedies. Dr. Bach was born in 1886 and studied medicine and it was in the early 1900’s where he became more involved with homeopathic and alternative medicine after serving as a medical officer in WWI. Flower Essences falls under vibrational medicine, similar to other practices, for example Reiki, Aromatherapy, Qigong, and Chromo-therapy (color and light) to name a few. The basic premise is that these practices as well as others believe that all matter and energy in the universe vibrate at their own particular frequencies. It is believed that disease cannot exist i...
